Green Valley Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers
Bill Roskey
This past week, a Green Valley
resident reported the possible theft of mail from her mail box. She told SAV that she learned from her bank
that it had sent her a new credit card which she had never received. However, someone had tried to use the new
card to make purchases. The theft of
mail in Green Valley has been reported a number of times lately, due to both
credit card fraud and identity theft.
Another Green Valley resident reported that her credit cards and certain
ID cards were missing, although it is unknown whether they were stolen or
lost. Especially these days, it’s
important to remember to safeguard not only your credit cards for obvious
reasons, but any other documents that can be used by thieves. This includes bank or credit card
statements, statements from brokerages, your social security number,
solicitations for new credit cards, and similar items. All of these documents can be much more valuable
than money to an identity thief.
On December 10, a number of
Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers received awards for the number of hours they’ve
volunteered. Norm Bernatsky has worked
more than 9,000 hours, Hollie Hinz, more than 3,000, and Ed Farver more than
2,000 hours. Gary Jacques, Diann
Sewald, Henry Gregory, Kathleen Truschke, and Bill Roskey have each worked more
than 500 hours.
Last week the Sheriff’s
Auxiliary Volunteers celebrated its 25th anniversary at its annual
dinner. SAV is also updating and
expanding its webpage. You can see it
