Valley Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers

Identity theft can have many
consequences. One Green Valley resident
had her wages garnished by the state of Arizona for $600 in taxes that were
due. Someone had filed a tax return
in her name and social security number. Our caller had received income
considerably less that that reported on the Arizona return. The filer also
filed a federal return for which they received a $1000 refund. Our caller suspected a former roommate of
filing the return. Keep your personal
records in a secure place at home, especially if you have roommates, employ
outside help, or are having work done in your house. Shred financial documents
and paperwork with personal information before you discard them. A shredder is cheap compared to a stolen
identity.
A Green Valley resident
reported to SAV that she had received two telephone calls saying she was a
Readers Digest winner and he had $55,000 for her. When she asked him to mail it he said he wanted to deliver in
person. At that point, our GV resident
hung up. Be sure not to give out
personal information to telephone callers that you do not know even if they
seem to represent a responsible company or financial institution.
A gentlemen in Green Valley
reported to SAV that when he went outside to retrieve his newspaper, he noticed
a for foot sego palm was missing from a container at the corner of the
garage. A trail of dirt went down the
driveway to the street where it abruptly ended.
Three SAV individuals were given awards for the
number of volunteer hours worked: Art
Anderson, 1,000 hours, John Isgrig 3,000 hours, and Pat Signoretti 13,000
hours.
